RESUME OPTIMIZATION TIPS
Tips to write a fantastic resume and make sure you have it to be the best
Sharing some tips for resume which have helped me and are optimized. This is so critical because a good resume gets you calls. After having reviewed it from a recruiter during a career fair, I realized so many things I could improve. And all her advise made sense because in my first 400 applications, I didn’t receive a single call. But in the next 100, I got 4 interview calls.
Sharing some other tips and tricks that have helped me :
Mention only relevant work experience. If you’re applying for a SDE job, no point mentioning previous experience as a admin or a part time job not associated with it. You have to make sure all experience is directly associated with the job.
If you are a student with not a lot of work experience, then add projects relevant to your role. Build and do ad hoc experiences as well.
Back up your experiences with data & numbers. All the entries on your resume should be super-specific. This allows you to stand out from the other candidates & show the recruiter that you’re a high-achiever.
DO: Managed and optimized the client’s Facebook ad account, increasing the ad ROI from X million to Y million
DON’T: Managed the client’s Facebook ad account
DON’T go over 1 page. Common advice, but again, a TON of people disregard this. Unless you’re a senior professional with 20+ years of experience, there’s no excuse for going over 1 page.
Don’t fluff. “Critical thinker” “good communicator” “strong teamwork skills.” What do these words have in common?
Well, it’s that every single recent graduate stuffs these in their resume. Avoid generic buzzword terms, because, let’s face it - they don’t help, and they are just space-fillers.
Proof-read your resume. Use Grammarly for this, or ask a friend to give you a 2nd opinion
Customize one resume for different jobs : You may apply to different jobs so make sure that you customize and have different resumes for different jobs.
